The most colourful of current Flemish cartoonists (in all meanings of the word), Brecht Evens, has announced the publication of his next graphic novel, The City Of Belgium for the end of 2018, with an English-language edition planned for early 2019. Evens has worked more than two years on the book, resulting in more than three hundred pages of dazzling colour.
The story plays in the same universe as The Wrong Place, Evens‘ first book from 2009. That book chronicled the intertwined lives of a bunch of rowdy young people in their twenties. The new book on the other hand, takes us ten years onwards, and shows how people have changed on the cusp of getting thirty, while still partying hard, or even harder. According to Evens, this is a particularly dangerous age – in an interview with the Flemish website Stripgids, he said “I’ve reached my thirties myself in the meantime, but it was a pretty close shave”.
