From our Continental Correspondent – the Dalton Beatles

It may require some knowledge about both classic European comics and the history of the Beatles alike, but I for one have not laughed as hard with a cartoon recently as I did with this one by French cartoonist Obion.

(Cuacocomekeki, or When do we eat in Spanish, according to Averell Dalton)

I love how George “The Quiet One” Harrison is cast in the role of Averell “No Reward” Dalton, whereas John Lennon’s role as the diminutive but very volatile Joe Dalton seems to be quite apt, at least for 1969.

Obion is also one of the contributors to L’Atelier Mastodonte, an admittedly overcharged and quite voyeuristic, but very entertaining chronicle of the goings-on in a real-life French comics studio. Again, you’ll need some background knowledge, and know your way around in colloquial French, but it’s worth it.
