Small Press Day in Dublin and Glasgow

As we’ve already blogged, the excellent notion of Small Press Day is returning for a second year, on July 8th, a great chance to celebrate the incredibly vibrant small press comickers and zine makers we have in the UK and Ireland (we’ve reviewed a ton of them across more than a decade, so we’re well aware and impressed with the range and diversity of styles and subjects being undertaken across the small press scene). We already mentioned that Forbidden Planet Glasgow is organising another terrific bash – this year in conjunction with the iconic Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, which is currently running a large exhibition of the comics art of Frank Quitely. A terrific place to celebrate creative talents. More details on the event’s Facebook page here.

For those in Ireland, our colleagues in the Dublin Forbidden Planet are again taking part big-time, with a huge event in the Fumbally Exchange on July 8th, which includes a whole slew of comickers, including Leeann Hamilton,
Stray Lines, Ben Hennessy, Lightning Strike, Hugo Boylan, Kerrie Smith, Sean Hogan, Kinga Korska, Sean O’Reilly (AKA Draw Boy), Anthea West, Kevin Keane, Ciaran Marcantonio, Aaron Fever, Clare Foley, Olly Cunningham, Paul Carroll, Wayne Talbot, Gareth Luby, Katie Fleming and Tracy Sayers. Check the Facebook page for more details and please do go along, it’s a terrific chance not just to pick up some very cool and unusual comics, but to support independent creators, which is always a good thing, and to enjoy yourselves and get some great reading (and no doubt liquid refreshments afterwards), which is also always a good thing.
