Happy birthday to our favourite Time Lord

I do what I do because it’s right. Because it’s decent. And above all, it’s kind. Just that. Just kind.”

It’s November 23rd, 1963, and on a cold, dark, winter night in Britain, as people still come to grips with the shocking news of the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, a slightly delayed new television show is about to make its debut. A show that has now engaged generations across more than five decades and is, this Christmas, about to change again, embracing gender diversity as Jodie Whittaker becomes the first woman to take the lead role, and the latest in a now long line of fine actors who have each brought their own personality to this unique role but always maintained something of the character’s central core (no mean feat for an actor to pull off).
