From our continental correspondent – Drawing Machines in Paris

It’s going to be a hefty fall in Paris, comics-wise. From October 25th onwards, the Paris Musée des Arts et Métiers (Museum of Art and Industry) will host a special exhibition, Machines A Dessiner, about the comics work by François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters.

In this show, the visions of Schuiten and Peeters on the organisations of cities and traffic, on architecture and industrial design will be shown alongside a number of machines especially selected from the Museum’s collection. That way, the world of fantasy as represented in the Cités Obscures will be contrasted with actual machinery from the past and present. Above all, though, the exhibition wants to celebrate the act of drawing and designing as a prerequisite for a better future.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a hefty catalogue, published by Casterman, which will also feature a lenthy interview with François Schuiten on the process of drawing, and of creating comics. Coinciding with the opening of the exhibition, the second volume of Schuiten and Peeters latest novel, Revoir Paris, will be published, also by Casterman.

More on the world of Schuiten and Peeters can be found on the Altaplana website.
