Totally shocked to hear this evening that we lost Anton Yelchin at the age of only 27, in a freak car accident. Best known for playing the youthful Mr Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek films, Yelchin had appeared in, or lent his voice talent to a number of others geek-friendly productions such as Terminator Salvation or voicing a character in the Aardman animated film Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists as well as a number of pretty cool Indy film appearances (I thought he was terrific in Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive). He should have had many more works to let us watch him continue to grow as an actor. This tragic event comes just a few weeks ahead of the third new Star Trek film hitting cinemas; I imagine for many fans the viewing of that new film will now be somewhat coloured.
