The Wicked + The Divine + TV

News over the weekend from Deadline that Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie’s excellent The Wicked + The Divine comic series from Image has been optioned for TV by Universal Studios. It’s tied in with a deal for Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Milkfed Criminal Masterminds which allows the Sex Criminals creators to not only adapt their own ideas and comics but also bring in other creators work, Wicked + The Divine being the first.

The series, launched in mid 2014, features a set of impossibly cool, incredibly beautiful young folks, ‘The Pantheon’, literally Gods on Earth, including a Thin White Duchess as Lucifer, who bloom bright and briefly, never longer than two years before it’s all over, only to be repeated every 90 years. 2014 is the time of the next incarnation. It’s all about being young, being alive.

Quite rightly it won the Best Comic Award at the 2014 British Comic Awards and is up for three Eisner Awards. It’s the latest in a series of excellent collaborations from Gillen and McKelvie that stretch back to 2006 with Phonogram, the third volume of which is with us later this year. Following that they gave us Young Avengers at Marvel and now we have The Wicked + The Divine, a series that will stretch from 30 – 60 issues. As for the news of the TV deal coming out, Gillen had this to say

So there you go.
