Comics: the Angouleme Grand Prix contender

Tom Spurgeon on the excellent Comics Reporter brings news of the creators under consideration for the prestigious Grand Prix at the Angoulême festival, the 41st edition of which kicks off on January 30th. Just have a look at the names and start drooling at this roll-call of diverse yet all fascinating creators: Binet, Christophe Blain, Charles Burns, Pierre Christin, Daniel Clowes, Richard Corben, Bernard Cosey, Étienne Davodeau, Nicolas de Crécy, Edika, Emmanuel Guibert, Hermann, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Manu Larcenet, Milo Manara, Lorenzo Mattotti, Alan Moore, Katsuhiro Otomo, Quino, Marjane Satrapi, Joann Sfar, Jiro Taniguchi, Jean Van Hamme, Chris Ware and Bill Watterson. Since the holder of the Grand Prix (currently Willem, who designed this year’s poster, below) is also traditionally involved in helping create events as president, exhibitions and so on for the next festival just imagine any of these creators doing that.
