(Dieter VDO’s take on Boerke)

Even though Boerke started his career in the Flemish media weekly Humo, most of the strips featuring Pieter De Poortere’s everyman anti-hero were published in the weekly Focus Knack. To celebrate his fifteenth anniversary, Focus and De Poortere asked a number of cartoonists and illustrators to present their own version of what a Boerke strip should be. So far, the magazine published contributions by Dieter VDO, Jan van der Veken and Serge Baeken.

Each translate the comic to their own style : Baeken makes a clear link with his most recent graphic novel, Sugar, while Van der Veken presents a comic that is as distant and aesthetic as his numerous illustration. The strip by Dieter VDO features everyone who’s anyone in Belgian comics (from local heroes like Jommeke and Nero to globally recognized characters like the Smurfs and Tintin to even alternative characters like Cowboy Henk and My Boy).

The special series runs until the end of the year.
