Top Aussie SF writer Marianne de Pierres drops us a line to share the launch of the cover artwork (by Joey Hi Fi) for her forthcoming book Peacemaker, the first in a new series, coming from our friends at the very fine Indy science fiction press Angry Robot in May. You may recall me talking about Peacemaker a while back, as it started life as one of Marianne’s first forays into comics writing (with art by Brigitte Sutherland), as well as scratching her itch to dabble in the Western genre, with an SF twist (see here).

Now Peacemaker is forming the start of a new series by Marianne, which as far as I am concerned makes me a Happy Reader. Marianne is not only one of our more interesting SF&F writers, she brings a nice Aussie perspective to her fiction and she is superb at creating formidable female characters who are strong, interesting and yet also very human and fallible, something the genre can always use more of. Those characters are one of the reasons why I’ve loved reading Marianne’s books for years, and I’m looking forward to seeing the new one come spring. Plus the obvious appeal, I mean come on, science fiction with Western trappings, how can I resist…
