Irish Comics Appreciation Week

Published On June 18, 2012 | By Joe Gordon | Comics

Irish Comic News is celebrating its first anniversary (happy birthday!) and to mark the occasion, instead of simply having some birthday cake and tooting their own horn they are using it as a good excuse to do more of what they normally do and celebrate the Irish comics scene. There will be posts from various Irish comics creators such as PJ Holden, Declan Shalvey, Nick Roche and Stephen Mooney, a new series entitled Outside Voices and competitions. We’ve covered the British scene a lot on here, especially the indy presses and self published scenes, which are incredibly vibrant in Britain at the moment. Increasingly over the last few years we’ve seen the Irish scene (both Republic and Northern Ireland) growing in leaps and bound too and we’ve been delighted to see how much the scene there continues to grow and also how those creators interact with the UK comics community too (lot of that on display at this year’s Hi-Ex, for instance). Happy birthday to ICN.
