At last…. we’re allowed to talk about this! Blank Slate’s Kenny Penman told us about this a while back and it sounded so very good. But now we’ve got pictures. And it looks absolutely superb.

Nelson should be with us in November, another debut at Thought Bubble we’ll all be eagerly awaiting. 260 pages of wonderful looking artwork from a veritable who’s who of the UK scene right now. And all profits go to Shelter.

Blank Slate’s Press Release:

“Nelson – Various Artists, Edited by Rob Davis and Woodrow Phoenix.

Creators: Rob Davis, Woodrow Phoenix, Ellen Lindner, Jamie Smart, Gary Northfield, Sarah McIntyre, Suzy Varty, Sean Longcroft, Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, Luke Pearson, Paul Harrison-Davies, Katie Green, Paul Peart-Smith, Glyn Dillon, Ian Culbard, John Allison, Philip Bond, Matt (D’Israeli) Brooker, Simone Lia, Daryl Cunningham, Jonathan Edwards, Ade Salmon, Kate Charlesworth, Warren Pleece, Kristina Baczynski, James Harvey, Rian Hughes , Sean Phillips + Pete Doree, Kate Brown, Simon Gane, Oliver East, Adam Cadwell, Faz Choudhury, JAKe, Jeremy Day, Dan McDaid, Roger Langridge, Will Morris, Dave Shelton, Carol Swain, Hunt Emerson, Duncan Fegredo , Philippa Rice, Garen Ewing, Tom Humberstone, Dan Berry, Kate Evans, Laura Howell, Andi Watson and Dave Taylor.

Over fifty of the UK’s most interesting comic creators have taken part in a unique collaboration to produce Nelson, a 260-page novel to be published by Blank Slate in November 2011. One continuous tale takes us from 1968 to the present with one chapter for every year, each of those chapters recording the events of one day in the life of one woman. A life told in snapshots. Nel Baker’s life.

Nelson embraces all aspects of comics storytelling across a wide spectrum of UK-based creators, uniting established talents from 2000AD, DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, The Beano and The Dandy with small press, Web comic and newspaper strip artists in one intriguing story. Nelson is an unprecedented anthology, a crazy experiment that is part exquisite corpse and part relay race, and best of all, an all–consuming novel like nothing you have seen before.”

(Glyn Dillon – 1980 – A Raleigh Grifter – that was MY bike!)

I think all we have to say after that little lot – and remember, there are another 41 people involved, doing another 34 years – is wow. Very big wow. Lots more info on this as and when we get it.
