If you only read one Royal wedding related comic…. The Official Kate Middleton Story
Transcribed by David O’Connell
“Kate Middleton is our adored future Queen! Read the story of her incredible romance with Prince William as told in her own graceful words. Gush at the general loveliness of it all!”
Well, seeing as David O’Connell’s Queen Mum Adventures (featured here, here and here) was one of my best of 2010, I was always going to be rather keen on O’Connell’s latest attempt to guarantee he never gets that knighthood, wasn’t I?
Yes, this year, as the Royal Wedding approaches, you have a choice – any number of utterly crap, tacky and hideous souvenirs are available. There’s even a few comics coming out as well.
But I’m certain that none of them gets anywhere near David O’Connell’s quite wonderful Kate Middleton comic.
It may be just 8 A6 pages in a suitably regal light blue shade, a single panel on each page, but it’s 8 magnificently, ridiculously over the top pages of Royal ridicule, with all of the delightful playfulness and silliness I found in the Queen Mom Adventures.
You’ll see the star crossed lovers meet, experience the romance of the proposal (once they managed to get the ring from the previous wearer with the aid of the surgical pliers) and watch as bride and groom come to terms with each others families.
And there’s even chance for a guest appearance from O’Connell’s favourite diminutive dead royal. Perfection.
You can get Kate Middleton: In Her Own Words from David O’Connell’s website. It’s available as part of a royalty pack along with the Queen Mom Adventures, but should you already have these, drop O’Connell a line and I’m sure he’ll sort you out with a copy of this glimpse into our future Queen’s innermost thoughts.
And whilst we’re talking royalty and the wonderful Queen Mom, O’Connell is also putting together a collection of her comics, complete with new strips. This is, of course, fantastic news. Queen Mom, Unicorn riding Kate, I wonder who’ll be next?
