Strip Magazine – coming to a newsagent or comic shop later in the year

Over at Down The Tubes, John Freeman has a story on a brand new magazine coming to the UK. And John should know, since he’s the title’s UK editor!

Bosnian based publisher PrintMedia have announced their intent to publish a new UK version of their existing Strip Magazin. According to the report, the title has a line up including PJ Holden, Michael Pennick, John Ridgway, James Hudnall, Jon Rushby and John Freeman and will feature “a mix of action, science fiction and humour” and publisher Ivo Milicevic is reported as saying:

“There is no certain formula for success, but the Magazine will have some good stories and really great art, I can promise that. I am hoping that we could fill the gap between 2000AD and superhero stuff. I grew up with the Steel Claw and The Spider, but as kid I also like Black Archer and Jet Ace Logan. Later, I was blown away with the work of Frank Hampson, Don Lawrence and Jim Holdaway. I never liked superhero stuff, but really appreciate old US newspaper strips and authors.”

Full story at Down The Tubes, an English web site for Strip is in development, but PrintMedia’s Bosnian website is here. From the look of the magazine, plus the quotes above and some of the creators involved it does seem to be looking very much like a magazine falling into a UK meets Euro comic feel, and hopefully it will do well. We’ll certainly be following the story closely and look forward to seeing that first issue later in the year.

But to give you a further taster, here’s some PJ Holden art from the Down The Tubes story…
