From Our Continental Correspondent – Dial P for Pulp

Published On September 25, 2007 | By Wim | Books, Comics, Continental Correspondent, Podcast

This month sees the birth of Dial P For Pulp, a new podcast for anyone interested in any aspect of the pulps, the predecessors of comics as we know them, quite often featuring heroes that later also had adventures in the comics (just think of Doc Savage, The Shadow, Tarzan and many others). Dial P For Pulp will look at all aspects of the Pulps, from the history of the early magazines, through the master authors and on to the modern legacy. The show will contain news and reviews, author and character profiles, essays and original fiction.

The first show features a book review (Hardboiled Cthulhu) and an interview with illustrator Tom Roberts about his work on Doc Savage: The Lost Radio Scripts of Lester Dent. As an extra, the listener is also treated to a reading of the first part of “Red Shadows”, a Solomon Kane story by Robert E. Howard.

In future shows, all genres of the pulps will be covered, whether it’s Sword and Sorcery, Science Fiction, Air Tales, Classic Adventure, Crime Capers or Horror such as H.P. Lovecraft. You can download the show at Dial P for Pulp’s website or subscribe to the RSS feed. You can also join a Yahoo Group to discuss the show with its creators.
