Comics Britannia website live and choc-full of goodies!

Andy Hall from the BBC’s Comics Britannia production kindly drops me a line to say that the Beeb’s web wizards have been busy creating a site to support the upcoming Comics Britannia season on BBC 4. If you’ve been keeping up to date with events you’ll know that the series – the cornerstone of a comics season which will also take in Batman, Steve Ditko and Modesty Blaise – promises a treasure trove of British comics material, exploring the history of Brit comics, the culture and influences, the art and talking to many of the creators, from Leo Baxendale to Carlos Ezquerra. The website is similarly stuffed with goodies for readers to explore – naturally it has details of all of the actual shows (fronted by Scottish comedian and writer Armando Iannucci), but it also boasts an art gallery spanning decades of British comics from the 1930s to the present, a spot for readers to have their own say (put the case for your favourite character!) and there are even video previews – so far the site has put up segments of talks with Alan Moore and Leo Baxendale to whet our appetites and Andy tells me he expects more material to be added as things go along, so you will want to bookmark the site and keep checking back. I know I’ve said it before but isn’t it terrific to see our beloved Brit comics being so well treated and considered seriously as part of our culture and history? I’m so looking forward to this.

  1. I cannot tell you how excited I am that this is finally coming on! And there’s lots of footage of The Master, and all. What more could a fanboy want, eh?
