24 Hour Comics Day in Dublin

Cliodhna drops me a line to say the the 24 Hour Comics Day event in Dublin is coming up very soon – in fact it will kick off at the Central Hotel, Dublin, at noon on the 20th of October and finish (as the name suggests) 24 hours later at noon on the 21st. The event is open for anyone to come along and watch as creators battle against the clock to create a comic on the spot, but Cliodhna tells me that the organisers are also really happy for comics creators to take part in it, so if you fancy joining in and haven’t registered yet there is still time and they would love to hear from you. You can find out more details on the event’s ComicSpace site and there is also a FAQ for any creators interested in taking part.

And on a related topic you may want to check out Cliodhna’s ComicSpace site too – as well as creating comics she is an animator and is currently working at the Cartoon Salon in Kilkenny on the film Brendan and the Secret of Kells, an animated feature based on the entrancingly beautiful, hand-written and illustrated Book of Kells, one of the great treasures of the literary world. The film should be out next year; meantime do check out the blog for updates and a look at some stunning examples of the animation created so far, such as this dream sequence depicting a viking attack – dynamic and eye-catching yet disturbing and to my eye paying homage to the devil figure from Disney’s Fantasia (which was based on the movements of Bela Lugosi). I’m going to have to keep an eye on this.
