Comica and more

Paul Gravett has an extra-special newsletter to subscribers this week. In addition to the forthcoming Great British Comics book which he co-wrote with Peter Stabury (you can read more about this excellent-looking book in an interview Paul did on the blog back during British Comics Month), Paul has been damned busy working on the Comica events, which tales place over the weekend of the 6th to 9th October at London’s ICA. You are cordially invited to be there from ten pm on Friday 6th to catch the beginning of 24 Hour Comics, where an unplanned 24 pages of comics are created in 24 hours before your astonished eyes, with a virtual Scott McCloud setting them off.

There are a number of Comica-related events coming up, including some involving Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie, David Lloyd, Mike Carey and Paul has also sent out details of an event a bit later on, with acclaimed creator Marjane Satrapi appearing at the ICA on Saturday the 24th of November to mark her latest publication, Chicken With Plums and – possibly – a sneek peek at the animated version of her graphic novel Persepolis. Full details and updates are available on Paul’s site. And I missed this because I didn’t get to read this email until it was too late, but Saturday gone marked the first of a regular series of graphic novel round-ups in the Telegraph which Paul will be writing every 6 – 8 weeks, so something to watch for.
